Jeep Wrangler Misfire A Story. 3.6 Melts an Inlet Manifold.

Recent we published a trouble shooting guide to help technicians and DIY guys get to the bottom of miss fire faults ont eh Pentastar 3.6 engine.

The need to make such a publication arose as we had a run on vehicles which were either driven or towed to our workshop with a misfire issue. Many of these vehicles came to us straight from another workshop who had failed to carry out accurate diagnosis and fault finding and simply put spark plugs and ignition coils in the car.

It is very uncommon for a 3.6 to have a misfire caused by failed spark plugs. Below is the link to this trouble shooting guide. if you have a miss fire in a Pentastar 3.6 then you will want to follow this guide.

Pentastar Misfire Trouble shooting Guide

This Wrangler was one of the vehicles that prompted the need for this guide to be published.

The wrangler had plugs and coils fitted to it by another workshop, a big glob of silicon jammed into a manifold that had melted and still misfiring.

It was found that this vehicle had melted the inlet manifold, had no compression on cylinder one and a cylinder leak down test showed it was the exhaust valve that had failed.

Here is a video of the tear down and repair.
