The 3.6 Pentastar engine has a very common fault for the oil cooler leaking. This oil cooler sits in the valley of the V of the engine. This oil leak is very commonly mis diagnosed as a rear main oil seal leak and sometimes as the rear of the valve cover gaskets leaking.
If there is engine oil leaking between the transmission bell housing and the engine it wont be the rear main leaking, it is more likely to be the oil cooler. this oil then runs through eh valley of the engine and down the back of the block between the transmission and the engine.
The WL Grand Cherokee, The JT Gladiator and the JL Wrangler all come with what we are refencing as a third generation of these engines. There are many differences and upgrades on this variant of the engine however the oil cooler failure is still a known fault on this engine and the repairs required are much the same.
Below is a DUY guide for how to do this repair on the older model. please note that whilst the third generation is very similar, there are a few differences with the inlet manifold design so this guide wont be step by step. It will give you some guidance and direction for how to do the repair.
In time we will film and release the DIY video for this model.
