The 5 most Common Faults On JK Wranglers

Axle Seals

The Front axle seals are the most common repair carried out on the JK Wrangler. The seals sit inbound near the diff centre and require the remove of the complete axle and diff centre to carry out this repair correctly. Be sure to clean the diff housing extensively before putting the seals and axles back in.

Oil Cooler 3.6 V6

The cooler leaks out the back of the engine and gives the symptoms of a leaking rear main oil seal. Its highly unlikely to be a rear main on a Pentastar 3.6 it is nearly always the oil cooler that is leaking. Click the link below for a step by step guide on how to replace the oil cooler.

Cams, Lifters and Rocker arm failure 3.6 V6.

The Pentastar 3.6 is common for what’s called the “lifter tick” to repair it requires the replacement of the Camshafts, the rocker arms and the hydrolic lifters. If left unattended the camshafts wear out and eventually fail completely resulting in the complete engine destruction. Don’t ignore lifter tick in a 3.6.

Clutch release Bearing Failure

The clutch assembly in the JK wrangler, no matter the engine combination you are running are a relatively robust unit. We have very rarely seen premature failure of the clutch unit itself. However the JK Wrangler is prone to having the release bearing fail.

If you have a JK wrangler with a metal noise when you press the clutch. you have a failed or failing clutch release bearing.

Unfortunately to replace this the transmission has to be removed, so at this point it is advised to replace the complete clutch kit anyway.

Diesel injector Failure:

The 2.8 Diesel engine cranks but wont start?
The fault with these are often a combination of the diesel fuel injectors and the fuel rail itself. it is advised to replace these as a package.

The diesel injectors remain “dribbling after the car is turned off, this prevents the fuel lines from maintaining fuel pressure and on a crank scenario the fuel pressure cant get high enough to start the vehicle.
