There are a rising number of WK2 Diesels experiencing Engine failure. The most common of these is the bottom end bearings failing causing knocking noises, metal through the oil and in some cases complete lock up of the engine.
What is less common is this interesting case which involved an obvious loan head gasket which can be seen in the short video below.
One we Stripped the engine down to replace the gaskets and send the head for testing we found some alarming issues with the bottom end.
Vertical scoring of the bore showing some issues with piston rings. A large amount of oil throughout the intake system suggesting blow by and in the short video below a large amount of what can only be described as piston wobble.
