As an active member of many car forums we frequently come across a generic question where the owner of a vehicle has the check engine warning light come on. They then ask the community with no additional knowledge “what could this be”
This warning light is simply an indicator to tell the owner/ driver that something electrical has gone wrong. It is quite literally one light for a possibility if hundreds of thousands of faults. The light does not apply to any one specific fault.
The first step is to get the vehicle to a mechanic and have the diagnostic fault codes read from the vehicles computer system. From there further diagnostic work is normally required to determine the exact fault and then rectify it.
If this light is on, your car is crying out to you that something is wrong and you need to do something about it.
