This vehicle has 134,000km on it, and it’s a perfect real world case study for what we’re talking about here.
Spun bearing failure in a diesel.
Based on what we see every week in the workshop, we believe this particular failure is linked to towing in Drive instead of using Sport mode but this blog isn’t about why it failed.
There’s already plenty of content on our website and social channels covering that.
This is about something far more important:
How you handle the conversation with your Jeep dealer once it does fail.
Outside Warranty. The Reality
Once you are outside the manufacturer’s warranty, the situation is black and white.
You do not have a legal right to a warranty claim.
At that point, you are asking for goodwill assistance, not warranty. Your dealer then has to approach Jeep Australia, which means discussions with Stellantis Australia.
Goodwill Can Happen
Goodwill assistance does exist, but it is not guaranteed. It is more likely if:
- You are only just outside warranty by time or kilometres
- You are reasonable and polite in your approach
This vehicle was just outside warranty and Jeep came to the party and helped.

Threats will not help your case.
Going straight to consumer affairs, civil tribunals, or using terms like fit for service or civil action will usually shut the door completely.
Jeep does not have to help you once you are out of warranty.
If you are in this situation:
- Be polite
- Ask for assistance, not entitlement
In some cases, Jeep may meet you halfway. You might cover parts while they cover labour, or the other way around. That decision is always theirs.
