A Common Fault with both the Discovery 3 and the Discovery 4 is the failure of the air conditioning Compressor. This Like most mechanical failures on the Discoveries is no easy task to replace and is not something for the faint of heart.
If you are attempting this repair yourself at home allow yourself many hours.
Before you commence the replacement you will need to get a mechanical workshop to remove the air condition gas from the system for you. This gas is an ozone depleting substance and should not be released into the atmosphere.
From there you will need to do the following.
- Remove the passenger front wheel
- remove the passenger inner wheel arch
- remove the fan shroud
- remove the viscous fan
- remove the drive belt
- remove the lower radiator hose
- remove the compressor itself.
From there the procedure is the same in reverse and then you will need to get the system re-gasssed. Be sure to replace the Air con O rings on the hard lines where they meet the pump.
