There are a number of common faults with the suspension on various Jeep models however the post common one to show up in our workshops is with the latest range of the Wrangler.
The wrangler makes one single clink noise when Turing from lock to lock. This sound is most obvious whilst parking the vehicle. That is moving he steering at a very low speed.
The most common cause for this is fault from the factory.
The captive nut on the front lower ball joint comes out of the warehouse loose. As anyone who has ever worked in Pre delivery knows, absolutely nothing gets checked on Pre delivery and the result is your brand New wrangler has hit the public roads with a lose ball joint.
We are regularly seeing this on vehicles with less then 2000Kms on them.
If caught early the Fix is easy. Simply tighten the ball joint nut and your done. If left loose for too long mechanical failure can occur and worst case could cause a serious accident.
If you have a new Jeep wrangler and are experiencing this fault get those ball joints checked. This is something that the Dealer is repairing under warranty but if you would rather use your normal mechanic is literally a ten minute job and shouldn’t cost you too much at all.
