How to replace the starter motor in the three litre diesel V6 fitted to a Jeep grand Cherokee.
Bad news. if you reading this its because you have to replace the starter motor and its not a easy for fun job.
The starter motor is located on the passenger side (right hand drive) and requires the removal of either the oil cooler unit or the engine mounting bracket.
If you don’t need to replace the cooler then we advise removing the bracket as the oil cooler will cause you to loose coolant and oil.
To access it you will also need to remove the front prop shaft from the vehicle. This Job can be done without removing the prop shaft but its much easier if you do remove it.
Time to do this job. Don’t expect to do this repair in any less then four hours. If its your first time, it will take you longer.
The starter motors are not common for failing so if you do have a faulty one it is advised to shell out and buy the genuine product as an aftermarket option may not have the same quality and you do not want to be doing this repair again.
Note: if you are removing the automatic transmission, the access to the torque convertor bolts are through the starter motor hole. You will need to remove the starter motor to get to these.
