Toyota has issued a recall notice for thousands of its Yaris cars due to a manufacturing defect that poses a risk of suspension collapse or detachment. The recall affects two Yaris models, namely the Petrol (MXPA10) and Hybrid (MXPH10), manufactured between 2020 and 2023. Among the impacted variants are the Ascent Sport 1.5L Petrol Auto Hatch and Ascent Sport 1.5L Petrol Manual Hatch, with a total of 7,633 cars being affected.
The Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, and the Arts has identified that small cracks may develop in the front lower suspension arms of the vehicles when driven on rough roads. If these cracks occur, there is a potential for the suspension to collapse or detach from the car, resulting in a sudden loss of steering control. Such a loss of control significantly increases the risk of accidents, which could lead to injuries or even fatalities for both the vehicle occupants and other road users.
To address this issue and ensure customer safety, Toyota will directly contact customers who own cars impacted by the defect. They will be instructed to bring their vehicles in for inspection. If necessary, Toyota will provide free replacements to rectify the manufacturing defect and eliminate the associated risks.
