Common problems for the d4d 3l diesel engine
Injectors are known for stay open longer then they should causing overfueling, engine rattles, sump oil blockages and cracked pistons. Its best to replace the injectors, seal and seats every 100,000kms to avoid this.
Engine seizing. Its common in these engines for the oil pick up inside the sump to block up with sludge. This is caused by bad maintence and the injector seals leak mixing the oil and carbon gases and makes the oil sludgey causing the blocked pickup. If your looking at buying one of these get your mechanic to look out for noisy injectors and drain the oil and check the oil pick up condition.
Rear wheel bearings can get noisy and the axle seals leak into the brake drum causing bad handbrake and a bad pedal.
EGR valves are common to block up with sludge and throw fault codes up. The way to fix this is replace the EGR assembly and also the EGR cooler. Also the intake manifold should come off and clean out all the sludge inside there also. Its also recommended to fit a catch can after all this work has be carried out to avoid the sludge build up again.
Injector lines leak fuel. Whenever this lines have been removed never re use them they will always leak.
Suspension lift kits. On these hiluxs its always recommend anything more then a 2 inch lift, the upper control arms have to be changed. If this doesnt happen the wheel alignment wont be able to be done and wear tyres out.
Bottem control arm bolts seize. This is a pain because they are used for the wheel alignment so these bolts will have to be replaced.
Turbo boost sensor are known to crack and fail causing power problems. Also the vacuum line can wear and come off causing the same problem.
