The Land Rover Discovery Sport has recently undergone reassessment by ANCAP, and the results are in. Under the 2022 testing protocols, the Discovery Sport has been awarded a prestigious five-star rating, reaffirming its commitment to safety. It is important to note that this rating applies to all models except the P300e plug-in hybrid, which has not yet been rated.
Introduced in 2015, the mid-sized SUV initially received a five-star rating with a 2014 date stamp. However, Land Rover made significant safety upgrades last year, prompting ANCAP to conduct a re-test. Notable enhancements were made to the autonomous emergency braking system. The latest assessment shows impressive improvements across various safety categories. The Discovery Sport scored 84% for adult occupant protection, 89% for child occupant protection, 71% for vulnerable road user protection, and 85% for safety assist. Comparatively, the 2014 test results yielded scores of 93%, 83%, 69%, and 82% respectively. One area where the Discovery Sport fell short was side-impact testing, as the side chest-protecting airbag did not deploy correctly.
Carla Hoorweg, the CEO of ANCAP, expressed her admiration for the progress made in both vehicle safety and ANCAP’s assessment standards. She highlighted the impressive achievement of the same generation model receiving a five-star rating against ANCAP’s more recent protocols.
While Land Rover has yet to release full specifications for the upcoming MY24 Discovery Sport, which is expected to arrive in December, the current MY23 model comes with a comprehensive set of standard safety equipment. This includes autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, adaptive speed limiter, reversing camera with front and rear parking sensors, and traffic sign recognition. Furthermore, customers have the option to add a surround-view camera for enhanced visibility.
