The BMW ConnectedDrive system is a fancy name for the BMW in car multimedia system. It incorporates the vehicles hand free phone operations, radio operations and the satellite navigation system among other things.
The System to date operates of the 3G network which in mid 2024 is scheduled to be switched off. This will result in owners of the BMW range of vehicles been left without the connect drive operation.
In most cases this will be able to be worked around by using the AUX operation and connecting a mobile phone via cable however this will not allow the GPS unit to operate (except for the ones on phones)
Solutions to rectify this are currently available via aftermarket in car entertainment systems however this is a costly exercise.
